Just back to the TH after a 5+ hour hike to bag Horse Ridge 4260 in temps fluctuating between 85 to 101 due to constantly changing cloud cover I probably should have skipped this one, but being so close just over 3/4 mile away (yeah, sure!)... let's just git'er done! To make it easier I removed the empty 100 oz bladder and other weighty items I wouldn't need, just going with the full 70 oz bladder.

Initially I planned on following the route on the AZ Topo map but after realizing it appeared to follow the brush-choked wash, I left the wash and headed straight up to the base of a cliff, where I found just what I hoped, a nice path traversing the base. As I approached the end of the cliff I caught sight of something moving in a small cave, but before I could get my camera out a ringtail came out and scooted around the end. Hoping to catch another glimpse, yet still hoping, I turned on my GoPro, ultimately filming the rest of the climb to the summit.

Again, looking at the AZ Topo path I noticed it added a long zig-zag route and by now I just wanted to get it over with so I went for the steeper-but-over-sooner route to the summit. I took the usual panorama photos and video then pondered just what peak I was on.

Hmmm... All the information I had on 300' prominence peaks in this quadrangle listed it with an elevation of 3,740, the maximum height reading I got on the GPS was 3,709' and the USGS disc from who knows when (no date was listed) listed it as 3,785'. Now I know over some years there will be some upheaval or dropping down (I know of one 20' change over a 25 year span in the Dripping Springs Mountains) but this seemed quite excessive.
Whichever it is, I checked it off my list... only 16(!) more peaks in the Weavers Needle Quad to go.
