| no partners | | I consumed the remainder of my almond milk and needed to make a trip to Sam's Club in Bullhead City for replenishments, so I thought I would revisit peak contour 3772. Got started around 2:30PM. When I was here a few weeks ago, it felt like the pathways were a bit more discernible. This time, it pretty much felt all off trail. The question is always should I go straight up or contour along and you kind of end up doing some combination of both at various points. I ended up higher and above the white rock section I turned around at previously, which left a good eye's view to the peak. I got to the base of the summit slab and continued up the chute, which had a little more vegetation than I had hoped for. I took the chute as far as I could, where there was nice views to the north, east and south. Climbing the summit slab from this location was a no go. I went back down the chute and over to the south base of the peak. It might be possible to climb up from this location; that is, for someone more daring than myself.
In general, while descending, it felt like I contoured along a lot more. For me, it is always so much easier to go up steeply than to go down steeply. There are some fun sand scree like sections that you can smoothly glide down, but the rest of it requires just a touch more caution, for me anyways. As I was coming down, there was a park ranger at the mouth of the wash. He followed the way I returned through the wash and departed once returning to his vehicle.
I like this area. Maybe I will hike the actual trail next time or get a feel for Spirit Mountain. |
