I had taken this trail just a week or two prior but had stopped at Bridal Falls. I had seen the sign for the Douglas Spring Campground several miles down the trail. I was on a time crunch the first day, so this next trip I planned to go to the camp. I have never backpacked (am dying to go!)and so wanted to see what a backpacking campground looked like, and also wondered how my stamina would hold up on a longer hike. I have only recently been extending my hikes beyond the 5-7 mi range...I had no idea how much fun I have been missing!!! Loving the longer, more challenging hikes (: Anyway, so this day I set out thinking I was doing a hike in the ballpark of 11.8-12.2mi range, but somehow my gps said I did 14.3?? I also had only planned time wise for the 12mi range. Well, 30min after my estimated halfway point (which was the campground), I still had not reached the site. I panicked for a moment, wondering if I got on a different trail with out realizing it?? But no, just a few turns later there it was. Sadly though, my leisurely lunch break was not so restful. I inhaled my sandwich, took a few pics, and 15 min later was heading back. I made it back by dusk, so that worked out. I was pretty tired too- the last mile was where I physically hit a wall & one knee was pretty angry with me but a few days later was fine again (:

All in all, it was an awesome day & I found a beautiful tank/walled in pool that was awesome. The biggest highlight was finding and getting pics of a pregnant Collared Sonoran Lizard. I didn't know she was pregnant until I was researching, trying to identify the species. She had red bands on her neck & turns out those are only there when gravid (pregnant)! Also explains why she was so fat and didn't run away during the 10 min I took pics of her at every angle LOL! Can't wait until it's cool outside to do the trail again but this time backpacking and stay the night.
