I realized I'd be driving right past it on my way up to the White Mountains to visit mom and hike in Bear Wallow. Perfect! And, it was a week day, so I knew I'd have the place to myself.
And I was right. Just me and the cattle in the canyon the whole time. Some humming birds zipped by and a few lizards made an appearance, but it was a delightful, isolated experience.
I started hiking at about 11:15a, but since I was in the creek it never felt too hot. I spent a lot of time trying deliberately to stay in the water, but at about 45 minutes to my turn-around time of 1pm, I still hadn't reached the falls. I was determined not to fall short this time - not on a 3 mile round trip - so I picked up the pace and was at the falls about 15 mintues later. I hung out for a short time, swam and snapped some photos, then headed back at 1pm. It took half the time getting back as usual.
Fantastic short creek hike - would do again in a heartbeat. |
