| no partners | | Went to Four Peaks with the intention to maybe get on top of Browns peak. I kinda knew I wouldn't be able to go up the scree chute as it was incredibly windy. I drove there on friday the day before the cold front was coming down with the great chance of rain in the Phoenix valley...on the drive there I noticed rain had fallen and I think I noticed snow in the mountains before I reached Globe.
Started the hike about 1:30pm conditions were pretty cold and very windy. Hike went good up till the saddle. Once I reached the saddle I made 2 choices to either try up the chute or bush-wack up it around the back. I started going up to the chute area and it was so incredibly windy I could hardly stand up. I gave up, hiking around the back seemed like a huge task and gave up even trying it
Going to Browns peak saddle is still worth it. I've made it up on top of Browns peak before and when I got up to the saddle I looked up near the chute and it still amazes me that I reached the top. Its a huge mountain and only being there I remember how big it is. No picture of the mountain can match the feeling of being at the saddle and looking up on it.
I still highly recommend going up to the saddle alone and taking pictures. Its very much worth it..and continue to Amethyst mine if you like which is very cool.
I still want to reach the top of Browns peak again and will try again sometime soon.

I wanted to make a follow up triplog to my last one. My last triplog was a day before the snowstorm/rainstorm happened around the valley. I thought it just rained alot after the day I went to Browns peak trail and didn't even think i'd see any snow in the mountains around Phoenix. I was incredibly surprised to see snow all over the Superstition mountains.
I planned on going to Devils Chasm but going into the mountians I quickly figured out this was a massive snowstorm that happened and going to Devils Chasm wouldn't be possible on a dirt road. So I headed out to Roosevelt lake for a road trip to see all the snow. Its beautiful around Roosevelt lake and love seeing the Four Peaks from the east side with the lake.
I added a few pictures of the Four Peaks with so much snow on top of them and wondering if anyone has went up into there since all the snowfall. |
