Started down BA ~0500ish, IG ~0630 for short H2O break. Over East Tonto ~3 1/4 miles to route start. Only one possibility to get up West side of Cedar Ridge here so can't miss it. Leave Tonto Trail at the loose green shale outcrop and head up the obvious ridge to base of the redwall. At the base of redwall, traverse a hundred yards or so north and into the slot which allows access to Cedar Ridge and the South Kaibab Trail. Stay leftish of center (north) scrambling up the slot.
Appropriately enough - ran across a freshish skeleton in the slot - looks to be from a mule - a mule "ice" boot was amongst the bones.
Out the South Kaibab.
Perfect weather - sunny but nice and cool.
Think I'll try the whole of the "Miners Route" soon. |
