If you continue on to Fisher Point, there is a moderate elevation gain to reach the top (which is why my total elevation gain was higher than the average gain, since it was down, up, down and back up). The hike offers good 360 views (from Fisher Point), and even with being right next to a campground it is not a crowded hike. The only wildlife I saw were birds and insects (save for a few horses on the trail), and there were a few scattered wildflowers.
There are two places to access the trail: from NFR9478Y or from the Canyon Vista Campground. The turnoff for 9478Y is almost exactly 3.5 miles from the Ranger Station, while the campground is just beyond. For weekend summer hikers, the FR is easier to park at, as we all know how fast parking fills up at campgrounds here in Flagstaff. |
