JohnLP and I went over to do some testing on removing the Orange Arrows up to the Flatiron. I stopped at Home Depot and picked up some supplies prior to picking up John. He brought some Mineral Spirits and I brought Citristrip. I had the Citristrip in both a spray can and a gel. Additionally we had some scrub brushes, some shop towels and some rubber gloves.

Once on site at the first arrow it was quickly evident which product was the best for the job. Citristrip in the spray can works by far the best. It comes out almost foamy and is easy to apply. After letting it sit for a few minutes we went to work with the brushes and then mopped up the lose paint with the shop towels.

It takes a bit of scrubbing to get it out of the cracks but with effort and patience it comes up and off. Afterwards I poured some water on it and that washed away the mild residue. The
Citristrip is biodegradable and non toxic.

It took us about an hour and a half to tackle three arrows and we used close to one can of the product.

Several people asked what we were doing and most were appreciative of the effort. A few were concerned that they may get lost without them.

This leaves about 17 to be cleaned up. 6 more cans of the product should do it. Gloves were nice to have but probably not necessary. Old rags or shop towels are ideal to mop up the mess. A good scrub brush is essential and a tooth brush wouldn't be a bad idea for the small spots.

I don't know what day would be best to go back out with a group. Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays work best for me. We could also do it in small teams. I am open to whatever.

Check out the pictures. I am sure you will see the effort was worthwhile.
