| no partners | | I had some free time on Wednesday before and after work, so decided to hike. This idea quickly evolved into an attempt at a double Flatiron (one in the morning and one in the afternoon).
Started my day at the mining camp TH at 4:45am. Reached Flatiron at 86 minutes. Back to the trailhead 2 hours, 19 minutes later.
All day at work, I slammed water after water and ate constantly throughout the day. Legs felt shredded all day, but started feeling more refreshed on the drive home. Once home, I grabbed my gear and topped off my camelback. The morning run had only required a 20 ounce bottle of water, but I knew the hot afternoon run would demand about 60 or more. I also grabbed my trekking poles which I've never used. Figured my legs could use the help from my upper body. Glad I brought them.
Arrived at the TH again at 4:45...this time the pm. The heat was a factor up to the slick rock. Legs were fine, but lungs didn't like the heat. This was definitely going to be a slower climb. Reached the rock wall at 106 minutes and Flatiron at 114 minutes. Took it easy going down and was back at the trailhead 3 hours and 17 minutes after my start.
Tough goal, but mission accomplished. |
