| no partners | | Hiked in to Indian Gardens for a week-long volunteer project with the Grand Canyon Hikers and Backpackers Association (GCHBA). We spent most of our days painting the Visitor Center, Ranger Residence and Clinic buildings inside and out - not the most glamorous of work, but a huge aid to the rangers down there. We did do a small amount of trail and campground maintenance as well, and took a day off for a cool hike (separate triplog) on the Old BA and Miner's Routes.
Weather was amazing - warm and breezy, with cool nights. The cottonwoods are already completely leafed out, and the redbuds are blooming. The difference was notable on the shrubbier stuff between my hike in and out - so much more green hiking out. Of course, more people as well, since it was Spring Break and the place was pretty well packed. Always a culture shock, even from Indian Gardens.
It was nice to get to know yet another part of the canyon more intimately, and to friend a couple more rangers. The crew was amazing as always, with some familiar faces and few new ones as well.
So great to get to contribute in this way! Thanks GCHBA! |
