Would have liked to go further on to Indian Paint Mine, but we really underestimated this trail! It's a good intermediate hike, but take lots of water...there is plenty of uphill, rugged terrain. We also ran into some wind shears at the tops that about blew us away! But it was an unusually hot February day (83), so the wind felt good. The wind and heat did beat us up a bit though! Don't forget to stop and turn around often for breathtaking views of Canyon Lake, especially when you get high enough to block out the roads and marina. From the summit (about 1-1/2 miles in), there are good views of Battleship Mountain and Weaver's Needle, but the real treat is the dropoff view into LaBarge Canyon. |
