| partners | | Denny wanted to get in a longer ride on his new (to him) road bike. Pretty blue it is. We rode from Mesa/Chandler south to Hunt Hwy thinking we would stop at San Tan Park and hike or go all the way to Poston's Butte by Florence depending on how we felt.
The morning was cool and we were doing fine so we kept riding to the trailhead for Poston's Butte, which is about 46 miles away. We walked our bikes in on the trail a ways and locked them to a thick cable, then hiked up to the pyramid. Great views.
Once we got back down I noticed my front tire was flat. We put in a new tube and we were off on our way back home. We cut over from Hunt Hwy on Attaway Road to Hwy 287 which turns into Hwy 87 leading back to Chandler. This way is safer than Hunt Hwy as there is a much wider paved shoulder to ride on.
Not long after getting on 287 Denny got a flat. We fixed his flat and continued on our way praying for no more flats! Our goal at this point was to ride a century (100 miles). I guesstimated we would be short about five miles if we rode straight home.
I suggested we ride to the AZ Wilderness Brewery for a cold beverage to add some mileage, like I did when I rode my first century. Good call. My Pusch Ridge Porter was delicious! We were now at 97 miles. I rode with Denny west from the brewery to Dobson Rd where he turned to go to his castle. I kept riding on to Rural Road to ensure I had enough mileage by the time I got home for a new PR.
Awesome day. Thanks for joining me Turbo Turtle. You rock! |
