I have missed out on a couple of opportunities to hike it with JJ. trekkin gecko and I stayed in the wash as much as possible which seemed like a good choice. A good stretch of the climb is through brushless slick rock, which was a surprise. Off trail in the Estrellas can be very demanding. Loose and steep.
The scenery both near and far is quite nice. The air was pretty clear, but midday isn't good for long distance pictures. We thought we could see all the way west to Kofa.
The peak itself is full of communication equipment. Nothing special except the awesome views. Somebody put a new register in a cairn near the summit.
Very fun hike, though relentless once it starts getting steep. Best done during the cooler months, but short enough to hike anytime of year if you bring enough water.
Thanks for providing the transportation gecko and the great company. |
