After that I headed down to Palomar Mountain to camp and explore. No problem getting a spot in the Observatory Campground Sunday evening.
I had planned on spending two nights there, but a storm system passing through (dry) had the temperatures below normal and the breezes cranked up, which made it pretty chilly at night. I only brought my light summer bag, so rather than spend another somewhat uncomfortable night, I headed down toward the desert areas Monday, following a day of sightseeing. My plan to camp down in the Anza-Borrego Desert was thwarted by really strong winds, so I just kept on going and got a motel room in Westmorland at the southern end of the Salton Sea.
With the exception of the slight change of plans this was another enjoyable trip to Southern California. I am getting pretty familiar with some areas, so future trips will be easier to set up. |
