| no partners | | Hiked up a small mountain known in the area as Molly's Nipple. The peak is right next to Gobbler's Peak which appears to be only slightly higher. The peak at Molly's is much more interesting with the large rock formation jutting up out of the peak. The approach towards the nipple is fairly easy, although the elevation got me breathing heavy as I approached the final 100 vertical feet to the base of the nipple. Today I had packed some rope, harness, webbing and biners to assist with my descent from the summit. Although an easy climb, plenty of exposure, and lots of loose rock. Reaching the summit ended up being anti-climactic due to a swarm of tarantula hawks and another swarm of 1000's of what appeared to be flying ants. They caught one whiff of my sweaty stench and forced me to descend almost immediately. I fired off a couple of blurry shots in the frenzy, but had no interest in sticking around to find the summit register I had heard about from a local. Didn't feel safe to complete the down climb on this solo outing, so I down climbed a bit before anchoring off a small but sturdy bush for a rappel down the final 20 feet.
