October 21st 1999! Autumn at West Fork captured on film!
I headed out at four in the morning. Arrived at the trailhead before seven. I passed a group of seven women just after the bridge. From there on out the trail was all mine. I could hardly believe, autumn at West Fork in full glory, all to myself. I headed in wearing double layers freezing my butt off and came out three hours later in shorts and a tank top. The sun didn't peek down into the canyon until after eight I believe. Not a cloud in the sky, a wind factor of zero and no recent rains to muddy the creek, this was a dream. Beautiful fall foliage covered the canyon wall to wall throughout the hike. Every turn presented an eye pleasing sight. Passing the one mile mark the colors
of autumn exploded. Near the two and half mile mark I stopped and absorbed the surrounding beauty in pure silence. I simply couldn't ask for more. |
