| no partners | | After my 9am Pink Jeep interview I hitch hiked from Tusayan into the Village, geared up and managed to make it to Phantom Ranch before 1pm.
I dropped my non hiking essentials in guest Cabin#7 which is where the trail ccrew was staying this week thanks guys!
Then I spent the next 4 hours wandering west along the river, north and up the schist along a "super secret side route" that leads up to Utah Flats the hard way!
Then I headed east along the river once I came back down and explored multiple little pocket caves (former air pockets in the schist!)
5pm found me eating chili and drinking moonshine with Carl, Trey and Luke the Xanterra trail crew guys aka the mule crew. I got to feed the mules with them then we went for a hike around the bridges, the river trail loop
And ended up playing hide n go seek in the Kaibab tunnel...
The next morning I was up at 7am spent 3 hours at the river exploring tiny details...found a shoe.
Headed up south Kaibab around noon. Stopped at cedar ride to read my book and bask in the sun (45°!!) Then made it to the rim by 3:45.
No snow on trail except first switchback or two.
50° at the Tipoff midday.
Feels like spring already!! Hoping we get more snow before march. |
