The "AZT Section Crew" had missed this section a couple weeks ago when we were down in Oracle due to some blisters I had developed after hiking passage 14 the two previous days, so we made a return trip this weekend to get the passage completed. Wendy had decided to join us, as she had made an unsuccessful attempt at this passage once and needed a redo.

So, after another wonderful stay at High Jinks Ranch, and another delicious breakfast made by Dan, we drove over to Tiger Mine Road TH. We did a bit of TH trash pickup while we waited for Wendy to arrive, and then began hiking South, back to High Jinx Ranch.

First was the road walk, where Angela chased away some curious cattle (though, they moseyed more than they really ran away), then under highway 77 where all but Shawn could stand up straight (Ambika could even touch the ceiling!), the trail then wanders through Oracle State Park across easy rolling hills. There's little shade along this part, and it was pretty toasty out there (hey, it's early February, it shouldn't be this warm already!), we found a tree just off trail and stopped for a bite to eat at about our halfway point. We continued on, passing through the two gates on either side of Webb road, due to be replaced this upcoming week, and made our way into the American Flag TH. We admired the new artwork on the sign, and were in the midst of taking a few pictures when a woman out for a Sunday drive stopped and offered to take a group shot for us. We chatted awhile, gave our condolences about her imminent return to chilly Chicago, and hiked on.

The last 1.6 miles ? (seemed much longer) from Amercian Flag to High Jinx is a steady uphill stair step, not too steep but uphill none the less, and as you go you keep expecting to turn a corner and see HJR, but all you see is the larger ranch above HJR. When HJR finally comes into view, keep an eye out for a little side connector trail that heads towards it...it's easy to miss the connector trail and breeze right on by.

After a post hike beverage and munchies, we undid car tricks, and said our farewells...until our next segment on the AZT. :D
