| partners | | I was still exhausted from 3 nonstop, 12+ hr days, at Disneyland with my kids and grandkids, so opted for a shorter hike this morning. We drove the short distance to the Desert Foothills Trailhead and headed up Telegraph Pass, a bit before 7 am. It was cool out, but the uphill had me shedding my jacket in less than 1/4 mile. I welcomed every break in that first mile up, too many big steps for these tired short legs! Once we reached the road/National trail junction I was warmed up and settled in, the rest of the way didn’t seem so hard.
We checked out the rock house, and then chatted with a Park Steward Volunteer about his duties and Shawn asked him how to sign up (is Shawn looking for some new trail work to fill in his “spare” time?...or looking for me to get out of the house more? )
We continued on up to the junction, turning onto the Gila trail to head over to Pyramid peak. We stopped on the peak for a granola bar, before heading downhill. At the base of the hill, we decided to make this into a loop (originally I thought we’d just head over towards Bursera TH and head home and get another car to drive back and pick up the truck, but that seemed kinda "lazy"), so we headed East on Cholla Flat loop over to Desert Foothill Parkway, then hoofed it back to the TH on the (all uphill) sidewalk. Nice to be able to get out and enjoy the cooler mornings! |
