I had ‘low’ hopes of success for this hike.
There was a big chance that what I was trying to locate would not be there. As it turned out, all things were in place. Lucky me.

The hike was in the Hieroglyphic Mountains, specifically on Pikes Peak.
Pikes Pk is just east of the Morgan City Wash and the remains of Morgan City Mine. From what I can gather, there never was a city named Morgan City. Possibly wishful thinking. (Let me know where the city was located, if you have info).

I assume most hikers go to the far southern end of the little mountain range, as it’s alot bigger than the far northern end. Not higher, just bigger. The northern end is quite narrow in parts - not ‘exposure’ narrow, but narrow enough to have most not bother going there. I went to the northern end first, and located a benchmark that could easily have been gone, as even the NGS “wrote it off” as not being ‘survey worthy’. Well, MILL Triangulation Station (1924) may not be worthy for surveying, but it’s there and in perfect shape.

MILL Benchmark is associated with county boundary marker #18, and it too is in excellent shape. Frustum #18 is 95 feet further north and off the ridgeline. The frustum IS leaning a little bit, but might we all, when we get to the age of 91.

After wandering a bit further north, off Pikes Pk, I turned around and went to the larger, southern end. I located a very nice memorial for two gentlemen. Both must have been avid hikers. (Barrett had mentioned the memorial in a triplog, over a dozen years ago).

This was a fun little hike, and the 7 mile drive down the Morgan City Wash, to get to the ‘trailhead’, was alot of fun also. My only competition in the wash was a small family of wild burros. Cute little guys.
