I employed two expert hike masters to lead me up Sunrise Peak.

Madelyn (age nine) and Adam (eight) had us start at the 124th St, Lost Dog Wash TH, and soon we transitioned to the Sunrise Trail to eventually go up atop the peak.

Prior to leaving the trailhead, I was given a thorough briefing on what to expect.
The briefing included map reading, understanding signage, and the avoidance of stepping in scat.
I was also informed that I would carry all the water for all three of us, plus all food, sun tan lotion, cameras, a GPS, and a PLB (Personal Locator Beacon). The PLB was needed in case I got lost or fell into a huge pit of scat. Thank-goodness neither happened.
Oh - They also said there would be absolutely no “looking-for-benchmarks” on this journey.
I agreed to all terms.

Madelyn and Adam (the hike-master duo), took turns leading the charge up the Sunrise Trail.
We stopped to check out cactus, mountains, flowers and an assortment of lizards.
Once on the peak, we had a snack and waited for the Fountain Hills fountain to rise from the lake.
Photo-ops were in order for the rising fountain.

We made good time - over 2.5 mph. Not bad for over 6 miles and about 1,600 AEG. (We took a few treks off trail).
Being eight and nine years old, the two hike masters didn’t even breath hard on this hike. They were too busy having a great time. I was the slow-poke of the group.

They both agreed to clear me for ‘solo-hiking’, especially since I avoided falling into any ‘pits-of-scat’.
