| no partners | | Located at Hwy 89 and Alder Creek N. of I 80 east of Truckee, Ca. This trail meanders around the valley where the Donner expedition was stranded by an early winter in 1846 as they attempted to cross the Sierras in October. More than half the members did not survive. The pictures show a beautiful, lush valley but beware, as the Donners learned, snow levels are often 30 feet or deeper on an average winter. It's great to see some action finally in thinning out the forests and clearing fuel. |
