| no partners | | I love rock climbing so I was really excited when a friend told me about this cool approach. I started the approach from the parking lot at Lost Dutchman state park on siphon draw. It was pretty easy going up a mild grade to a small waterfall. Scrambled up some slightly slippery featured rock then more scrambling up big chunky boulders. Found a 10 foot 5.2, totally free soloed it with a pack and hiking shoes, and continued the approach. I eventually came to the top of this hill thing with a neat prow and cool view. I was starting to think there wasn't going to be any climbing so I headed back down to the 10 foot wall to see what else was around. I kept going, having an unfortunate encounter involving a cactus a hole in the seat of my pants. Finally ran into my car again and gave up on finding climbing. That's right, I did this big long freaking approach and never got to a climbing spot. Total b.s.
Also, saw a big ol' coyote hanging out near the parking lot and camping area waiting for someone to let their cute, fuzzy, little walking street taco off a leash. Seriously keep an eye on your dogs around the trailhead, especially if yours looks like it could be tasty.
Finally, kept hearing there was ice at the top from people coming down but it had all melted by the.time I got there around 11 or 11:30a. |
