Finally...this one's been on my bucket list since I moved here. Seriously, within a couple days of arriving in the state I tried this hike with wife and buddy of mine. While I knew both of our legs were jello from driving 3000 miles, I didn't know that heights weren't his thing, until they weren't his thing and we turned around. This time two missions -1 - reach the top - 2- stay at the top.

We took off in the afternoon and were the only ones going up. Gotta admit with a pack my legs were feelin it! (We passed countless tired souls on the return, many carrying their four legged friends who were forced onto the endeavor.) Once up top we had some time before the sunset and had some fun with the camera and made camp closer to the trail. Sunset was surreal, but watching the lights of the east valley turn on combined with the glow of dusk was the best part. I'm usually not wild about camping on ridgelines for obvious reasons, and last night proved that point. The wind was light at sundown and then blustered throughout the night. Not a great sleep when the tent was shaking from the gusts coming from over top. Still, very very cool.

Departed back down at sunrise, which was still blustery, but at least not as brisk. Detoured to check out 5024 and the plane crash site. And again, were traveling against stream, with a steady flow of traffic heading up in the 8/9 o clock hours. Great hike, glad I finally did it, and magnificent sunset up top.
