This massive spire in the Superstion Wilderness can be viewed from miles in every direction, and it begs you to climb it. I'm going to be honest, the hike to the base of the Needle is probably the most difficult part of this adventure. We only used protection on the second pitch, which I think may be a little bit easier than 5.6, but with the exposure you'll probably still want to be on belay. The next two pitches are easy class five climbing. The view from the summit is one of the best in the Superstitions, and the raps on the way down are pretty sweet.
There are two camping spots at the top of the Needle that I would like to get back out to and stay the night. |
