The hike starts with series of switchbacks passing through the sequoia forest. After 4 miles you get to the saddle and from there you will continue left towards the Alta Peak. After hiking mostly flat/little up for mile or so, you will start to hike up in steep switchbacks towards the saddle and peak. After passing the Tharps Rock, the switchbacks end and you will have to make your way going straight up for the summit. That part of the trail was covered in snow, but nothing our micro spikes couldn't handle. When we got to the summit it was just us and few curious marmots. Awesome views every direction, Mineral King valley, Great Western Divide and Emerald, Aster and Pear lakes. |
