Driving up to the peaks we were watching multiple storm cells brewing around the area. As we pulled up to the Brown's peak trail head it started to sprinkle. We put on our rain gear, grabbed our day packs, and headed out on the trail. After about 30 minutes the rain cleared up and the skies were fairly clear NW of the peaks. With the weather we didn't waste much time on the trail and we started right up the chute when we got to it. When we were about 2/3 of the way up the chute we started to hear thunder from the storm developing on the S side of the peaks (which we could not see). There was no lightning in the area so we decided to continue up. Once we got to the top it was apparent that we were about to get rain. We took a few pictures and started to head back down. As soon as we got back to the chute the clouds rolled in (literally up the chute) and it started to rain. Knowing the conditions were only going to get worse we continued down. It was slow going as the rocks were getting very slippery. We made it down without incident but it took about an hour. Back down on Brown's saddle we decided to take a snack break since we hadn't really rested up to this point. The rain continued all the way back to the trail head and water was starting to pool on the trail. We got back to the parking lot and headed out. I was glad to get my first AZ County High Point in the bag but looking back, chancing the chute in the rain probably wasn't the smartest decision.
