Not a lot of vegetation. Ocotillo looked healthy. After that you come to a gate, 2 Port-a-johns, and a trash can. You go around the gate and start climbing the cemented road to the towers. I talked to a local and he told me there was a register and 2 benches right before the top. The register is in an old phone box. He also said don't stop there as the views are better by the towers. I agree. I talked to another local on the way down and he hiked with me for 10 minutes or so. Some good conversing with a couple locals . That was half of the hikers I encountered . Slow day I guess but it was windy. This does look like the local exercise hike. It really does seem like a mini Thompson Peak in Phoenix/Fountain Hills.
The book suggest Lute's Casino for a burger. It's not a casino. It's a big ol restaurant in downtown Yuma. There is wall to wall Memorabilia in the place. They seem to do a good business. Their special was a burger/hot dog. Not real big, but tasty . |
