This was supposed to be the long hike for the day. After the long drive North, it became, lets see if we can make it to Lake Superior (Which I'd never seen) before the skies open up.
The trail was a bit muddy/slippery from the previous nights storms and the radar did not look promising.
We did make it to the lake, just long enough to see the wall of rain coming at us.
Seeing a sign for a campground 0.2 mile away, we dashed in looking for shelter of any sort. Being a primitive campground, we were out of luck. One umbrella and one trash bag among the 4 of us, did not cut it. All of my rain gear was shed and left in Phoenix so I would not have to check bags.
After a half hour or so the rain let up enough, so we hightailed it back to the truck before the next wave hit.
There was no next wave.
The completion of this hike in this area is still on my list. |
