This locally well-known cave is even on the topo maps. But a ~70-80' vertical entrance protects it from random visitors and graffiti.
Wonderful, beautiful cave with many amazing formations. Most of the formations continue to grow as water percolates slowly through the limestone.
Without a tremendous number of side passages, not a terribly confusing cave. There was at least one spot I would not have had the nerve to attempt without other people who knew the cave. As you squeeze through a small opening feet first, you lower yourself onto a boulder with a gap and long drop in between. If you miss the boulder, well just don't miss the boulder.
The vertical ascent out of the cave was a new challenge for me. I had practiced ascending, but never needed to use the skill in a real situation. My canyoneering gear was far less efficient than the caving set-ups some of our party had, but I reached the top unscathed.
Mileage includes some wandering around after setting up camp. |
