It was another beautiful day with weather in the upper 60s/low 70s and mostly clear skies. Parked at the lower trailhead and hiked 3 miles up to the drop in point, which took about an hour and a half.
After suiting up, I dropped into the drainage and made my way downstream. While still overgrown, the creek bed here was not nearly as bad as in Little Woodward Creek. In the upper sections of the creek the water is pretty shallow, mostly enough to just cover my boots or go to mid calf, but as I progressed downstream it slowly got deeper. For the most part the average pool depth ended up being knee deep, but there were a couple of swimmers where at 6'2 I wasn't able to touch the bottom.
First time wearing a shorty 2mm wetsuit for this and it was much more comfortable than the full wetsuit I brought along on Duncan Creek. Things went smoothly and I had a good time. A couple of the waterfalls are really interesting- with deep potholes and beautifully sculpted rock. One of the drops had an overhanging lip resulting in a momentary free rappel directly underneath the full force of the waterfall, very cool!
Even though I got started with what I thought was more than enough time, it was getting dark when I reached my truck at about 2030. It always makes me sad to see the days grow shorter as summer winds to an end |
