Started at 10:20 from the Ramona Falls parking lot. It was mostly sunny and in the low 50s, only a couple other of cars in the parking lot. Made good time to the falls, the bridge over the Sandy is still out- but the crossing over the logs wasn't bad at all.
After turning onto Yocum Ridge clouds slowly began to roll in and it got a little chilly. I passed my first bit of snow at 5000 feet and by the time I was at 5500' it was a full blown winter wonderland. The trail was completely obscured by up to 2' of snow in some places, but fortunately another hiker ahead of me had plowed an easy to follow path. By the time I reached the meadow area at the end of the trail I had just a momentary glimpse of the mountain before clouds rolled in and engulfed it. I took a quick break before making a hasty retreat back down to snow-free ground. |
