| no partners | | The second attempt to find Cosmic Ashtray started at the intersection of Old Sheffield Road and the alleged trailhead for the pot-hole. Instead of following in the shadow of the 5800' contour, we fell into more post-holing through deep sand and overshot a critical waypoint. This and I was finding chert flakes and hypothesizing where they came from. We were deep into cherts we have known and admired before we took a sight and shot back toward the direction of the formation. We dodged all cryptobiotic soil, hopscotching over slickrock until sunset. This close, but I didn't want to see the Cosmic Astray in starlight. I know when to make my way back to the barn, but I shall return to see the place in sunlight.
