I've been warned not to park in business lots north and west of the golf course. Apparently, they will tow your vehicle. I've been parking at the tiny turnout on 42nd Place near the fire station with permission of a security guard. Not the most scenic entrance and no facilities. I chose the counterclockwise loop, Javelina to Beverly and out, have done it the opposite direction. I carried a daypack with extra water, nothing too heavy. Not many hikers, a few conscientious dog walkers with wag bags. The trail is marked at intersections, the telegraph line is easy to spot from the ridgeline. (This is a dateless trip log. I'll pay attention to time, weights and breaks in future logs.) This entrance will get you to Mormon, to Fat Man's, to Buena Vista and back, but I can't vouch for secure parking. I've had to replace the drivers side window once this season.
