On a later trip through Queen Creek Canyon, I noticed the trail weaving along the canyon wall. Cool! Recently, I decided to explore this trail on the way home from Phoenix. I roamed along the creek until I found a reasonable access point for the trail, then climbed aboard. Several people that had stopped along highway 60 noticed me walking through the brush, and taking pictures of the hillside, high above the canyon floor. I must have looked weird. After hiking the Bellamy Trail, I went searching for its history. Jack San Felice's book When Silver Was King discussed the trail. An e-mail from the author lent some more information, too (thanks, Jack!). This is an excellent book on the history of the eastern Superstitions/Superior/Globe area, for those that are interested. |
