The road to the Johnnie Canyon trailhead requires high clearance, but not 4x4 unless there is bad weather. The drive through O Bar O ranch had countless private property signs, but the road itself is a county right-of-way so people are free to travel through, you just can't stop. Johnnie Canyon trail was in rough shape but overall wasn't too difficult to navigate. There was one small seep spring in Johnnie Canyon that had water. Carrizo Peak trail had seen some recent maintenance from the intersection of Johnnie Canyon to about 1 mile west of that point. Beyond the saddle Carrizo Peak trail has become a social trail. I lost the trail a couple of times but quickly found it again. I got lucky with the weather and had amazingly visibility with some beautiful clouds. This area is great to visit if you want some solitude and adventure.
