This was challenging to put together with forecasts and fire restrictions. Sarrah had 3 day weekend and original plan was Bandelier and Valles Caldera. NM fire restrictions differ from Colorado. Bandelier allowed propane stoves in the campground, but no stoves or fires in dispersed camping. Dogs allowed to be tied to vehicle with water for 2 hours at a time in Bandelier as they are not allowed on trails. This was not allowed in Valles Caldera. Only three trails open in Bandelier. The nixing of this plan came when the forecast changed to 100% chance of rain Sunday after 20% previously the night before we planned to go. Forecast nixed Glenwood Springs as well. Saturday morning we planned Buena Vista and possibly Breckinridge Sunday. Got the in Laws to let dogs out so we didn’t have to worry about them and where they were allowed. Hit Mt. Princeton Hotsprings Saturday wore the kids out doing 3 hours of laps on the water slide had a picnic dinner and went Creekside for some soaking after dinner. Kids enjoyed helping us get our spot warmer by filling in the gaps where creek water was sneaking in with rocks and sand. The kids are starting to earn their keep. Haha! A little crowded on weekends as Sarrah and I usually go on week days, but the pool and water slide minimize the crowds Creekside. Took off and headed to one of many dispersed camping areas near Buena Vista. Forecast was for t-storms after noon Sunday. Headed to the river park after breakfast in the morning. Checked out the bouldering rocks and little farmers market. Watched some kayakers and paddleboarders surfing on the surf waves and hiked across the bridge up the trail to whipple trail and turned around. Had a picnic at a park and left just as the t-storms were coming over the Mountains. Came home to a good amount of rainfall at home which was much needed. In all the times we have been here I never knew there was pools and water slide across the road. It’s $5 for unlimited slide on top of regular admission. 3 and under is free for the springs and water slide. Water slide open to 6 springs are open until 11 pm on weekends. Crowds weren’t bad after dinner. First time with the entire family in Yertle. Camp set up in less than 10 minutes. Car seat removal 4 wing nuts and setting up awning. Sarrah said it was comfortable as she hasn’t camped in the truck, but says she is going to have to get used to the confined sleeping spot. Plenty of room just close to the ceiling with the way I had to build the sleeping platform above the generator bay. Good Times!
