The river flow was 10% of normal due to poor snowpack and pretty evident. Medano Creek Road was dry and the sand was deep. Despite this didn’t get stuck anywhere and did not have to air down Yertle, but there was a little learning curve to driving Yertle in sand. Found a good campsite and stayed there for two days. Hiked to a high point for lunch and kids played in the creek after we got back. Unforecasted weather and wind came in both evenings, but the day time temps were nice. Kids enjoyed glow games at camp at night and cooking their sausages and s’mores. This was the first trip with Yertle and a few adjustments will have to made. Noah took Sarrah’s spot on the platform where I learned he is a major snorer. Micah made camp under the platform. I made screens for the windows and the blackout curtains made it so dark the kids slept until 8 am every morning! Hit the dunes on the final day and they played in the 2” of water by the dunes. No Mosquitos the whole trip! Went down the 25 via Walsenburg to get there came back through Buena Vista and the 24 which is by far more scenic and faster for Yertle with mellower passes. All in all a fun trip. |
