They outfitted us quickly and we were on our way. We started on Basalt and were kind of disappointed with the lack of powder and seeming overkill of snowshoes. That all changed real quick when we hit Volcano, which was virgin snow. A couple ahead of us blazed the front half and we took over for the back half. That was WORK, but it was quiet and peaceful. Just when I thought the kids were going to mutiny (or die, according to Macy) we returned to the sweet packed stuff and all was good again.
The rest of the day was a Tour de Flag. We recovered with Macy’s for the kids and Beaver Street for the adults, hit Lone Pine for some sledding and snow play, then topped it off with Hickory’s Smokehouse (after Crystal Creek let us down by closing early). The I17 hosed us again, but only for 20 min and we were back at a reasonable hour before the work week. Hope to do snowshoe again. Good stuff! |
