I ran the 5 k route twice today one in the morning on my own and one in the afternoon with my daughter. It was muddy in the am, but extra muddy in the pm and we got rained on most of the way. Just trying to get a good pace down and figure out the best way to approach the first hill which sucks particularly because you don’t get a chance to get a good rhythm before attacking it. Despite the rain and muck she did very well and would have beat half the adults I ran with. I’m mixing running the course with a route I have been running in the neighborhood with two or three times the elevation gain for the distance and will probably be doubling my running in Holyoke to make up for the complete lack of hills. As is obvious I pretty much don’t have a clue what I’m doing, but I want to improve each race. It’s more of a fun thing to do with Micah. What I really like about this open space and the springs in general is the variety of trails and hiking on the way to running errands. I pass red rock open space, garden of the Gods, the Incline, and Cheyenne Canyon daily so it’s convenient to get out and run when I have a few minutes on the way to somewhere else. |
