The town is worth driving through and exploring after the hike and you pass the large still in use mine on the way to Cripple Creek, which has become a big casino tourist trap. The drive on the 67 is a family favorite during leaf peeping season. Hike is a couple miles with only a few hundred feet of elevation gain, but it’s at 10,000’ so keep that in mind. There are a couple of other favorite hikes along the way Ie. Horse Thief Falls/ Sentinel Point dome rock state park and the Crags up to Pikes Peak if you wanted multiple hikes for a little more challenging day, but this hit the mark for a nice family outing to somewhere we had not been. Forgot to hit route scout so I don’t really have the details, but the kids were fascinated by the history and info. Trail is in pretty good shape and dog friendly. Nice day! |
