He also offered to carry the pack since I’m not allowed any weight on the right side. This activity was probably not medically approved and I may have gotten a slight tongue lashing by my wife, but I needed to get out and with the promise of a thin mint girlscout avalanche from the Colorado custard company my boy was all in. We took breaks in the shade. He got encouragement and surprise from everyone we passed and at the top he threw his hands up in a V and when everyone cheered he threw a hilarious impromptu bow and ran off to climb a particularly enticing rock before running back for his summit photo. The trip down the Barr Trail was uneventful and we made it back in time to meet sister at the bus stop. When asked if he was ever interested in doing the hike again w/out hesitation he said he would like to do it anytime if we can have custard afterwards. The thin mint avalanche will remain a secret from his sister. |
