The trail head starts right outside the gate, but carries you right inside. At the beginning, the trail splits off into two trails. Be careful here, because one will take you to the top of a small hill and dead end. The other takes you past a nice gentleman's backyard, (they were out working in the back yard when we walked by), and past a wash. From there, the trail is easy to follow. The beginning of the hike was fairly easy, dominated by small switchbacks. Eventually about half way up, the trail splits. This is where the loop feeds back to. If you take the right hand path, it will lead up to the summit. It gets a bit steep here, more of a path of rock staircases than anything else. The view from the summit is awesome. From there you can see various other mountains around where hiking is available. The descent is more of a controlled fall, again dominated by switch backs. The path will then fork, again, one leading down, the other following the side of the mountain. The one down seems like it lead to someones backyard. We continued along the side of the mountain until we came to the original fork, then back down. Overall an invigorating hike. The best part? There was no one else on the trail. Empty. Amazing. |
