While on the Heliograph Trail, a little bit of small hail and a light shower came down, while a lone thunderbolt rumbled somewhere in the clouds. This year's deadfall made for a lot of climbing over enormous logs: hey trail crew -bring on the chainsaws! Once on top, the thunderstorm parted, and the sun came out. Da boys from the forest service were hanging out on top and having fun with the loudspeaker on one of their trucks. Heliograph Peak rang with it's first recorded elk call. Finally got to check out the view from the south side of the peak, which was quite impressive. We completed the loop by taking the fire road back. Any afternoon at 10,000 feet is an afternoon well spent. |
