| no partners | | I took some friends from ASU to the Grand Canyon. It was their first time to the Grand Canyon, and for some of them (from India), their first time seeing snow! We had an amazing time! We didn't get started on the hike until early afternoon because we drove up that morning and then took our time at several viewpoints before driving out to Hermit's Rest. The trail was in good condition. There was some ice for the first mile or so. I had crampons with me, but didn't feel the need to use them. My Indian friends wore the crampons, and they felt more confident on the ice with the microspikes. But of course, it was also their first time seeing snow/ice, so that is understandable.
The hike itself is beautiful, with very good scenery. We went a little past the spring to where there is a great flat rock overlooking Hermit canyon below. Interestingly enough, Hermit creek was not flowing because all the water was frozen, forming icicles where the waterfalls would normally be. |

All of Hermit Canyon was full of water (mostly frozen!) | | | |
