| partners | | i've been fascinated by the power family ever since i learned about them during my first trip to aravaipa in dec 2018. our planned trip was to backpack the power's garden loop starting at the deer creek trailhead.
however, that did not happen. somewhere between the turn off for klondyke rd and the trailhead chris lost his phone. so we spent sunday morning retracing some of our drive to see if we could find it. that made for a much later start to our hike.
we still had every intention of doing the full trip, so we set off on the east divide trail with full packs. THIS AREA IS STUNNING. i can't get enough it. the first few miles were beautiful and uneventful. then we got to the pumpkin. full packs, up hill, on an extremely overgrown trail with snow. it was great until it wasn't. by the time we got to the saddle i was HANGRY and declared i was over it. we dropped our packs, hiked up to the top of kennedy, enjoyed a long salami & cheese break while taking in the views, and then headed back down to the trailhead. with a full stomach, the miles back to the trailhead went by quicker. chris's bad ankle was really starting to bother him once we turned around. thankfully, my hanger declaration worked out for the best.
normally, i LOVE overgrown trails because it means solitude, but my brain was just not having it this trip. oh well, just means i get to come back! |
