For a full description of the trails in the Spence Springs Basin, see the description of Noodle Loop Trail #760 which is the only trail from the the Spence Springs Trailhead. Firewater Trail is the southern-most of two trails that have one end in the Spence Springs Basin and the other end at a trail near the Thumb Butte parking lot. The west end of Firewater Trail is where Javelina Trail #332 and Willow Creek Trail #704 meet near the fireplace that gives Fireplace Spring its name at the South Fork of Willow Creek. From there, Firewater Trail climbs up to West Trail #318 about a half mile northwest of where West Trail starts/ends at Pine Lakes Trail #316 which is 1/4 mile north of the Thumb Butte parking lot. The west end of Firewater Trail is about 2.5 miles from the Spence Springs Trailhead via Noodle Loop Trail #760, Willy Nilly Trail #707 and Willow Creek Trail #704, or about 2 miles from the Iron Springs Trailhead via Javelina Trail #332. |
