I drove up last Tuesday and have had a pretty productive five days of hiking in the area since and have covered a lot of ground for having the old man with me. We got a little rain out there the last few days to say the least, so I am currently typing this triplog from a hotel in Pinetop. I needed a dry “zero” day to recover my gear and resupply for another three to four days back in the Blue. I just can’t get enough of the area right now and I can’t think of a better area to close out my summer break.
There was a little deadfall on the trail, but nothing overly impeding or demanding on the dogs. Some locust is taking hold in its usual spots as well, but the tread is still defined and easy to follow. There is also a little less locust from a quick trim job on my way out. In terms of scenery, green was the theme. The trail and surrounding forest is as green and healthy as I have seen it, to include a nice mix of flowers and healthy raspberries along the way. I turned around at the falls and returned the way I came after a short break.
