My wife and I have had knee problems which has slowed our hiking a lot. We have this loop that we haven't done this year that is north of the road to Baker lookout, there are quite a few maples there. After that we went over to Dickenson Flat hoping nobody was camping, because I wanted to drone photo a bit of history in the meadow. The Winslow–Lindbergh Regional Airport for many years was the only all-weather airport between Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Los Angeles, California. It was a route for early aviation following Rte.66 and the Santa Fe railroad. Also there were the flights from Denver to Phx. that came through Winslow. So out in lonely Dickenson Flat was a helpful little directional and mileage reminder. |
