| partners | | My Texas Granddaughter and University of Arkansas Junior Year Nursing Student (Fall'22) was able to spend a second year this June'22 visiting me for a full week.
We had originally planned another Camp Grasshopper- Mogollon Rim Vehicle Camping and Hiking week trip, but this year I only had one vehicle and needed two vehicles to again pull-off our planned trip. I decided a good option was to plan some scenic AZ day drive trips and day hikes instead of vehicle camping. We would take one day off between each day trip. Our plan would allow for three (3) of my favorite AZ day outing areas.
This "BearCynUpr at E Bear to W BearLwr-Mogollon Rim" drive and hike was our third planned day outing and would be my fourth (4th) attempt through the years of trying to locate a suitable and easy to navigate off-trail hiking route access to this beautiful, scenic, perennial, and riparian section of Upper Bear Canyon. This 4th attempt turned out to be a winner, so now this new off-trail access and hike area is documented via our official new HAZ Hike Guide so any qualified and interested others can now also enjoy If I were still "backpack camping", I would personally plan a hiking and weekend backpack camping trip here and if I had younger kids learning to backpack, this would be a great area for them as well! The short distance off-trail downhill from FR95 -350ft then back up +350ft to FR95 must be taken into consideration but should be safely doable with a little adult supervision.
I should also mention that the thirteen (13) mile drive down FR300 (The Rim Road) to the intersection of FR95 is presently in the best condition that I have ever witnessed.. and I have driven it too many times to count through the past years.
